More filtration = more fish?

This brings back memories of conversations amongs keepers debating about overstocking a tank but ensuring it was over filtered to compensate, this is particularly true for cichlids only set ups where keepers like to overstock to spread aggression.

While there may be something of a grain of truth in overfilterig to compensate overstock a tank, it must be said that one must know what they are doing when going down this route.

I myself say there not really any such thing as overfiltration but there is such a thing as too much flow coming from too powerful filters in which in turns overtires the livestock in combating the flow 24/7.

Perhaps if one has fast stream fish such as hillstreams then there may be logic to that.

I am of the opinion really that while overfiltrtion does little or no harm at all, in fact probably cleans or polishes the water column nicely but always stock the tank accordingly to the tank size and ensure numbers of stocking is researched with aggression factors, not simply just plan to overfilter just to stock with larger fish or more numbers.

A good question though.

Btw, that tank stocking website not to be named is truly not to be relied on as there are numerous factors it will not calculate accordingly so you’ve beeen warned ;)
