I realize the ei method is meant to dose everything at slight excess...My question is my phosphates are over 5 ppm (as high as the test kit goes) should I still continue dosing the potassium phosphate or should I skip it and just add the potassium nitrate. The tank is full of snails and I must say for little creatures they sure produce a lot of waste...I am sure the loaches will feast well  when they go back in to the main tank.

I think its really up to you. Having more PO4 shouldn't really hurt so long at the plants are healthy. Equally you could stop adding PO4 for a few weeks to see what happens to the level in the tank. You might find that you only need to does it once or twice to maintain the right level in the tank.

EI can seem very prescriptive, but thats not to say it cant be adapted if necessary and for different situations :)

Thanks once again....I will try that. The plants seem fine althought I don't have any fancy plants as of yet...I am perfectly happy with weeds for now. It's nice to see something grow for once and not die. Also I have very little algea which I was the master of growing previously. Yaaah
