Moon Lighting, is it only for salt water or can it be used in a fresh water tropical tank also?

where can u get them?
whos has one?
pics anyone?

Never heard of it but I assume this is a kind of light fixture? It sounds interesting and I think it would do fine for a freshwater tank if the fish and plants are low light to begin with.

You can use them for fresh water. The best setup and cheapest is a DIY. Mine cost me about $20USD

Hey sky that looks really good. Do you have the plans or parts list. I would like to try that.
I bought this
http://www.compusa.com/products/product_in...8669&pfp=SEARCH

Then simply took my hood apart mounted the transformer on the back of the reflector. then drilled a small hole in the reflector (made a little gromet so the metal doesn't cut the wires) then mounted the tube between my fluorescent tubes.

I then drilled 2 holes in the back of the strip light casing one for the switch and one for the power cord. I cut off the power ends that the kit comes with (they're 4 prong molex) and just took the positive and negative leads and wired them to a old cell phone charger that I cut the end of. (don't worry if you get the polarity wrong. If you do they won't turn on just reverse it) the charger I chose had an output of 11.5VDC 1.05Amp though you could use something slightly less powerful or more powerful depending on how bright you wanted the moonlight to be.

I have one on my saltwater tank you can see it HERE go to page 8 in the thread about half way down. I looks better in person :)
I don't see way you can't use them on a fresh water. I got mine at my LFS for around $30 or $40 :S

Looks interesting. I may give it a shot sometime myself. :D
it literally took me less than 20 minutes to install from start to finish.

Oh, it wouldn't take me long to set it up, it's just I'd like to have a back up "regular" hood light and I have too many projects already on the table.

I'm not following you on the "back up" you don't change the regular hood or the regular light funtionality the moonlight is in with the regular light.
