I know i probably wont get any answers but thought id ask anyway! :D

I am looking into getting a monitor lizard when i move into a flat soon (hopefully). Does anyone have any idea how much they cost? I phoned my local reptile shop and they said they didn't have any, they couldn't get any and id probably have to buy an adult which would cost me a about £200!!!!!

I want a baby, and cheaper! Im a student - i have no money!!:D

Anyone give me a rough idea of a REASONABLE price?!lol

Thanks!

Jess

depending on type, a juvie will cost you anyway from $75 to $250. they don't come cheap. also, make sure you research teh type you want. these guys get big, have special housing and dietary needs, and can be nasty. gorgeous, but nasty. :D

here a great reptile forum you can check out for more info (they ahve care sheets like our fish index, and you can ask about monitors there too): http://www.herpcenter.com/index.php?

$75 is around £50 isn't it?! Thats not too bad! :D Its findong them thats the problem!!!

As i said, im just looking into it at the moment, i will wait til i have the space for it, but its always a good idea to research these things! :)

Jess

P.S. Would it attack my parrots?!!!! Just thought, i might have a problem there!!

I considered a Nile Monitor several years ago. As stated in another post they can be very mean.
Any reptile shows near you? There is one a month which is about a 2 hour drive from me. When I bred my Leopard Geckos I went there regularly. I have not been there in about 5 years. I've been thinking of going again to snoop around.

I used to breed Leopard Gekos! :D

I dont think there are any reptile shows near me, though i have never really looked into it as i used to sell my babies locally, mainly to people i knew as i just did it as a hobby really.

I have looked into different types of Monitors and i believe there are a couple of less aggressive species, though they are more difficult to get hold of unfortunately. I shall have to keep researching :)

*looks down at hand*
*sees scar*

Ya, they are mean :p

If you do get one work with him/her everyday so they don't feel the need to turn "wild" again and bite you. Best of luck
