As the title says, my black lyetail molly gave birth and now shes near the top with clamped fins. Shes showing the same behaviour as my other black lyetail molly who died after giving birth as well.
How common is it for mollys in general to give birth and than die?

What are your recent water stats like nitrate, nitrite and ammonia and what are you feeding her? How many fry did she have in total roughly?

My platy is doing the exact same thing! I dont know if shes still stressed out... she had about 15 fry just yesterday

Livebearers are rather prone to dying after giving birth, especially if they had a stressful birth i.e they were harrassed by other fish while giving birth or stayed for a long time in breeding net or had a large batch of fry, or the mother fish was very young/her first batch of fry- guppys appear to be the most prone to this.
The best thing to do is to feed the mother fish lots of high protein foods before and after her giving birth to help her get lots of energy, also making sure water quality is top notch will increase her survival chances.

Im not sure how many fry she had as it happened at night. I only ended up saving 1 black fry. I think the others that I found (5) were from my dalmation molly.
Would it help if I added pimafix to my whole tank? Do you think she has a internal bacterial infection? How would that affect my healthy fish?
Thanks -_-

I did a water change and added some salt and that seemed to really work. I've found that adding salt often works better than some meds.

Well the molly died along with a neon and a fry. I will post stats later. :rip:

Stats -

ammonia - 0
nitrate - 30 ppm
nitrite - 0
total hardness - hard
total alkinity - 40 ppm (low)
ph - neutral

Is there something wrong here that would cause my fish to die?

awww im so sorry that makes me feel so bad! my molly had babies and i managed to save some and for almost a week she did the same thinf :( but she overcomed it cause i moved her to a less stressful tank and alll she had was her sister in there with her! i suspected shimmies! but after a week she came around and started acting normal!

Sorry to hear- the water stats look perfect. If any more look sick get back to us, most likely just unfortunate coincidence.

All my fish so far seem ok... I will post again if they appear sick. Thanks for everyones support and help ;)
