I woke up this morning to find my black lyretail molly on the bottom of my tank. She looks healthy, shes laying on the ground upright moving her pectoral fins. Her gills are kind of panting though. Sometimes she will come up to the surface of the water, stay there for 2 or 3 seconds and swim right back down and just hit the gravel and lay there. What is wrong with her? She is usually swimming near the surface.

I had a male molly do this last week. It lasted about 3-4 days. I havent a clue what was wrong but I did a 30% water change and added a smal amount of salt. Out the blue he just picked up.

I don't really have anything else to add besides I have a platy doing this same thing, i'm not sure what is wrong... i posted in emergencies but no one has answers... I'm doing research, i will hopefully find something soon and post back... sorry i couldn't help much, i hope things get better.

I just got home and well... i found her lying on her side dead... What killed her?

I know it's too late for her now, sorry for your loss. Did she have any damage to her body at all, even just something really minor? What were your water stats? Any aquarium salt in the water?

Did you noticed the Chinese Algae Eater hanging around her at all? They're mean fish and should be in a tank on their own, they grow very big (30 cm) and are very aggressive, given time they'll kill everyone in the tank, they'll suck the slime coat right off your fish and their eyes. Have a look at some of the threads on the damage CAE's do to community tanks, you'll be quite shocked, I know I was, I nearly bought one, I'm glad now I didn't.

You also need more Neon Tetra's as they're schooling fish and like to be in groups of 6+ and they're also not really compatible with a Betta (what is) as they can be nippy little buggers!

LoL no we don't have a big house. I have 3 tanks in the kitchen and one in the kids TV/Computer area, you'd be surprised how easy it is to find places for more tanks! Sorry for the hyjack Rex740.

My CAE isnt aggresive at all. Water stats are normal. maybe not enough salt but i have 2 balloon mollys in there that are doing fine.

Please post your water stats. By the way it looks, you are new and most new people dont have test kits. PLease post your stats. Most new people who dont have kits pretend they do, even when their water is bad.

I do have test kits. Ive had fish for about 7 years. I think it might be salt? I did buy the lyretail last week.

My CAE isnt aggresive at all. YET! Don't worry it will be!

I did buy the lyretail last week. She may well have been sick already then.

How much salt are you putting in?
