:S my black molly has been harassing my large gold fish for the last few days nipping at its scales for a a day or so, more recently the molly has been chasing the gold fish and going after the rear end like a dog would??????

Aren't mollys tropical fish and gold fish coldwater?

Well, considering they are both supposed to be at different temperatures and shouldn't be in the same tank to begin with. :/

ummm,
no offense but what does that mean?
not to lecture, but to inform... -_-
as mentioned above,
goldfish are large, coldwater fish with a completley different matablism, not to mention they make a hell of a mess
mollies are tropical (warm water) fish which are more sensitive to water pollution
the uncontrollable waste produced by a goldfish can pollute the tank water enough to harm your molly
and their needs and temperment are far too different for them to be kept in the same tank

i'm sorry but the responsible thing to do is to get another tank, or rehome/ give away either your tropical or goldfish

this is fact, not opinion

to help you in your decision in who to give away,
you could answer the following questions:

1) how big is your tank?
2) are there any other fish/ tank inhabitants and if so, what?
3) is your tank heated or coldwater?

:hi: to the forum. You haven't introduced yourself. Why don't you tell us a little about yourself in the newbie section?

Simply put, mollies need to live in water from 70-80F, and goldfish in water around 65F. Mixing the two is not good because the goldfish suffocate if the water is too much (higher temp means less O2 in the water). Mollies will become very sluggish in cold water and will die a slow detah.

Please try to get another tank to accomodate the goldfish or the molly (depending on which tank you want which fish in).

How many fish are in the tank? What is the water temp? Do you have a test kit? Have you checked out the pinned articles? What size tank do you have?

55 gallon tank that had a 2.5 lb largemouth bass in it that i caught near my house. i was keepin g the bass in the 55 and the gold in a 10 gl with two mollys and the feeders . i put the bass back in the pond after getting tired of running to the pet store for fish. now ive put the remaining 5 feeeders (smaller golds) and the two larger golds and one remaining molly(male) inthe 55. the temp is high 70s to 80 the ph is around 7.2 .... the molly has been constantly sniffing the larger koi's butt recently, and i was wondering if since the addition of the second koi maybe this sniffing is a sign that the koi is about to lay eggs

I'd stick the molly in the ten and put the heater in with it since the other fish you listed don't need it. What's the pond like near your house? If you own it and it isn't connected to any other bodies of water you might (I say might! ask the goldfish people first!) be able to put the pond type coldfish in there...

If you want a coldwater fish for the 55 I'd suggest some sort of sunfish, if you get one while it's small you can get them to eat pellets instead of always having live food, and they don't grow as large as bass if I'm not mistaken. But if you like a tropical tank move the goldfish (to the pond, or to a pet store, or a friend with a pond, or a huge tank) and get some more tropical fish for the 55.

As to your molly, he's probably just horny.
