 I have a black mollie and a platty in the same tank together at the moment and both are due to drop their fry now. I have taken them out of my main tank to try and help them out, but nothing is happening. The are both massive and have to drop soon. Will they have their babies with another fish in the tank, or should I let them take it in turns?

I am pretty new to the whole thing, and have just had 45 white mollie babies born a week ago.

Thanks for any advice guys.

Don't move the adults unless you are moving them to another tank. Then leave them be. The more you stress them out the longer it will be before they give birth. If they are badly handled when due to give birth you can kill some or all of the young.
They usually have the babies at night after lights out. Have lots of plants in the tank, especially floating plants. When you see baby fish in the tank, scoop them out with a small container and put them somewhere safe, breeding net or another tank.

the beast thing to do is let them birth in the tank that they where in orriginally but provide plenty of plants and hiding places for the fry. that way the fittest will survive and you wont be over run with babys

I agree with f1sh1275.
Breeder boxes are terrible conditions to place any fish in and it will only stress them out big time!
I recommend either placeing them in another tank alone or buying an aquarium divider with some bottum plants for the fry to hide in.

goodluck!

Breeding traps are fine, a female that is pregnant will not fight to get out of the trap, she has more things on her mind (like giving birth) and if not left in to long, she will be fine.. I find mine seem happy of the privacy and nothing else can bother her.
