I have an Orange Mollie. Scary red eyes. Had this fish for lets say about 4 to 5 months. Been fine upto now, but seems to like a scuffle.

Got home this evening to find that one of her eyes is protruding say roughly about 5mm. Still in its socket, is eating fine and seems to be good in itself.

Can anyone help at all, is there anything i can do for her?

Many Thanks
Neal

Your tanks overstocked.
What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
She has popeye some say melafix works on it, or anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
Popeye closely related to dropsy because of the build up of fluids.

Mollies need different water too. They are brackish fish. They need marine salt if you really want them to be healthy. They also get fairly big when given the right tank, water, and food.

yeah one of the common consequences of keeping mollies in freshwater is that they become very prone to illness, i had some for a while and they kept getting pop eye or fungus

melafix should clear it up but you need to address why it's happening.

firstly as wilder said your tanks very heavily stocked which really isn't good, secondly you need to get them into brackish water conditions.

i would treat the mollies with melafix until they're well then return them to the store, if you don't want to part with them you should set up another tank and divide your fish out and keep the tank with the mollies in as a brackish tank.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. Well i never knew that about mollies, prefering saltier waters. I will get my tanks water stats done this evening and post them. In the meantime i will pick up some melafix, and get one eyed willy sorted.

If i were to keep the mollie in this setup could i maybe add a pinch of marine salt or would this be bad for the other fish that i am keeping?

Thnaks again

the catfish and plec wouldn't like it at all

what sort of plec is he?

there's very few that are suitable for your size tank  they can get up to 2' long so if you wanted to keep him you may need a bigger tank for him anyway, which could then leave you able to add some marine salt for the mollies in the smaller tank. :good:

I knew you would ask me that - ill try and take a picture of him later, and maybe you could help identify him.

I am actually starting to get concerned at his size already - he has grown really well. I would love nothing more than a bigger tank but just not able to stretch that far at the moment. I may have to take him back to were i got him from and see what they can do for me.

sadly that may be the best thing for him.

we'll definately try and help ID him for you though :good:
