well that's fair enough. If you could bring it to the attention of the other moderators I would appreciate it.
I can understand the financial side and not wanting to pay for extra storage space but I consider my point about 10 pics in the photo section vs 10 pics elsewhere, to be valid if they use that excuse.
Anyway thankyou for your help and I shall continue pulling my hair out until something happens

cant help thinking you are missing the point here! the photo section allows you to add attachments, all these pictures are stored on the FORUM server, and as such become part of the forum fabric. now multiply the number of pictures in this section by the number of forum sections and sub sections. lets say 100 in the photo section, 28 main section, that my have pictures in them, and many more sub section, that's 2800 photos. now lets say they are all about 200kb, that's roughly 546mb. remember the number of pictures in the photo section is well above 100! but even on this figure, if the forum restricts posting of pics to one section, the storage size is slashed to 20mb. the availability of image hosting, and its ease of use, means the forum can free itself of the overheads this would entail.

i would however suggest that the forum make up a pinned topic, outlining the method used to place pics anywhere apart from the picture section. as i spent many hours asking the same question colin started with, and got pitifully few answers too.
