I would like to put a plastic model ship (sunken ship theme) in my fish tank. Does any one know if the glue will kill the fish? Or what type of glue and paint is safe to use? Please help me. I don't want to kill my fish!

What kind of glue did you use, toxic or nontoxic? What ships is, I made a ship model, Montna Battleship. I mostly make german tanks even though I only built 3 in the last 2 years. :D

Hehe, I've always been partial to action figures myself. Nothing like that alligator guy from the Ninja Turtles standing in the middle of the tank with his mouth open...

Maybe some sort of boat paint would work for the models, and sealer as a sort of glue?

Some guy at the hobby store recommended 2 part epoxy. I just don't want to spend $100 on a model and then find out that the glue used to put it together will kill my fish.

I should imagine that the fish would only be in danger of dying from embarrasment, as aposed to any glue! Iv'e never understood the attraction it's a matter of taste I supose.

Super glue cures non toxic. Use the gel stuff.

On paint, a good acrylic enamel has worked for me in the past.

that was uncalled for... personally i like a natural look..

I have incredibally realistic fake driftwood...shame on me :p I used to get stuff like ships or little fisures to put in my tank, but they were always from the fish store so I don't have a clue about the effect of the glue :dunno: Are you sure the boat sinks? You mentioned it was plastic, and it would be a pain to go through hard work with the glue/paint only to find that it floats :p

The Maidenhead aquatics near me has a huge marine tank with a shipwreck in the middle and personally I think it looks fantastic if done well. I don't like the no fishing signs or air powered ornaments though. Just a matter of personal taste. If $100 is the price of the model, it should look realistic. As for fake wood/rocks, once they have been in the tank a few weeks, who can tell the difference?

Isn't the remedy for stuck fingers/eyelids :S to immerse them in warm water? Not a good idea in a fish tank.

You're right, my plastic driftwood is very well detailed and the bits of algae touch it up nicely. Some fake ornaments do look retty cool though, not the cheesy cartoon based ones though  (Maybe I'll strap a piece of fish to a spongebob figurine and throw it in a tank of piranhas! :hyper: )

Sorry people I wasn't trying to put peoples backs up I was thinking of those horrible bright orange treasure chests that open and close I just think that the most beautiful thing in the tank should be the fish!
