Hey modaz, if you remember i posted the pregnant platy thing that never worked out... Well i let the platy back into the tank after that whole epidemic. Today i was looking at my fish and my balloon molly was very square and her anal is very open. Im guessing its time for her to drop. i didnt even know she was pregnant... i put her in the breeder box. Should i put a floating plant inside to make her less stress? (the same plant i used in teh pics of the 2 fry in the other post).

You might be better off private messaging him. I would recommend against breeder boxes. They are generally too small for the adult fish to stay in for any extended period of time. I would just let her birth in the main tank and place plants around for hiding places for the fry to hide out after born. Floating plants and plants on the bottom will normally allow for the survival of quite a few fry. If you don't have floating plants, try string. Knot it up in weird configurations and let it float. If you don't have a lot of plants for the bottom, use marbles.

A floating plant on the top will help. However be sure that she is ready to drop, not that she is in there long as this can make her more stressed being in there then being in the fish tank itself.

Also if you need "modaz" you can send him a private message. You are more likely to get him sooner that way.

I just checked the molly. On the bottom of the breeder box there is six gelatinous spheres. are these eggs or something?

i dont think that mollies do lay eggs, they are livebearers.
but i dont know what those egg like things are, sorry mate.

hi, yep they are eggs, you put her in too early, see what happens over the next 30mins if no fry arrive let her go, it could be that the eggs have been aborted due to her going into labour with this lot of fry and these eggs were for her next drop of fry as she will develope eggs at the late stages of each pregnancy for her next fry. I have had this with my sailfins and lyretail mollies who were far to big to put in the trap, i left them in a bare bottomed tank and noticed this happen very often, not b/c i moved them too early as they were bred and left in this tank and soon after they had fry like in hours. dont worry about her aborting eggs, there will be more and in time you'll just be able to take a quick glance at a fishes behaviour to know when the time is right. ive made mistakes this way but its the way i choose to deliver my fry, for certain reasons and now im never too early but sometimes too late as they drop out of the blue sometimes.

it is as well very hard to determine a drop time with a balloon mollie b/c of the shape of the area that would square out is usually like this anyway, thats why i avoid breeding them any more

sorry for the incorrect advice then mate, they do lay eggs. :good:
anyway, good luck and i hope she produces a nice healthy batch of fry for you, like i am hoping from my hopefully pregnant platy.
if you dont know what i mean check out the topic "my platies just wont breed".
P.S. very very very best of luck with your fish  :fish: :fish: :fish:

So will she still have fry if there isnt any in next half hour?

no she wont, the muscle contracting and pushing out the eggs would push out the fry as well if there was any there, only give it 30mins,

PLATYFANATIC: mollies are livebearers like guppy they dont lay eggs. :good:
