Mission Accomplished

I've been doing my research for a few days in an effort to decide what kind of fish would make the best tankmate for my bichir when he gets bigger. So today, armed with information, I went to my LFS to have a look around. The decision eventually came down to either a very young gold severum or a baby oscar. I figured I'd get the tankmate while the bichir was still young too, so they could grow up together. Since I decided that I don't much like how severums look when they get bigger (though the little one was cute as a button,) I stood in front of the oscar tank for at least 10 minutes, trying to decide between an albino tiger oscar or a common oscar. The lone common oscar was the smallest in the tank, and after watching him for a while, I just fell in love with him
I must say, he has a great personality! I never thought I'd enjoy an oscar so much! He and the bichir get along "swimmingly".

His name is Aristotle . He's actually more solid black and silver than he looks in the pics.

Thanks for all the comments, guys! I just love him to death .
Normally he looks black and silver, but in certain light that greenish colour from the pics shows up as well. I was told at my LFS that hobbyists are kinda moving away from the common oscar in favour of the red, tiger, and albino tiger oscars. I'll never know why. I think the common ones are just gorgeous!

Actually most oscars look very diffrent when they are juveniles. They change quite a lot as they grow up.

I have an albino oscar, he was bought as a ` Needs TLC` from the shop. He had been brought back by a customer all bleeding and bullied so bad he had lost his orange colour. He is now mended!!
His character is great although he is a typical grump! I think an oscar is a great choice for a birchir because birchirs are very well armoured so as your oscar gets older and grumpier, as oscars do, he will not damage the birchir when he decides to try to bite him.
Mine does not bite anyone badly, just has a little go when he gets the chance. Mine are with several birchirs and some growing cats such as giraffes and Granulosus.

Both the bichir and oscar are still little babies, but neither has shown any aggression whatsoever at this point. In fact, they slept side-by-side last night!
