Hi,

I have just returned from a two week holiday and cleaned my tank. I found one dead fish and two fish are missing one of them being the Pleco. He was a reasonable size say 6 inches or so and the other fish was about 1.5-2 inches. While cleaning the tank i lifted a ornament that my clown loaches use i found what looked to be bones!! I had someone feeding my fish daily and checking on them and they say they say the pleco eating a algae wafer on Tuesday. Is it possible for him to die and be fully eaten so quickly?

Thanks

what else is in the tank ? plecs are very good at hinding, its definitely not in there ?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have to silver sharks, congo tetra's, gourami's, clown loaches, black ghost knife fish, and a few other fishes.

Do you think any of these fish could of eaten it if thats what has happened?

The Pleco was the biggest fish in the tank that is why i cant thikit would of been eaten. I have completely removed all ornaments out of the tank and moved the gravel around but cant find him. I hope he is just really hiding well.

When you remove the ornaments have a very good look inside them, plecs are experts at hiding I'm sure he'll turn up.
I had a good look in all the ornaments and he defiantly wasn't about! I hope he does appear but like I said I completely removed everything and he wasn't to be seen. I really do hope he turns up.

Do you think it is possible he could of been eaten?

Fish do rapidly decompose much faster than land animals. So if he was last seen Tuesday thats 4 days till today I could imagine it happened.

What size tank is this? As a rotting dead plec will create a major ammonia spike in your tank.

Thanks for reply.

It's a 210 litre tank! After doing a water change I done a water test and all tested fine.

Do u not think I would find more than just two or three bones in the tank?

Thanks

Even if it was dead you would still find the remains of its body somewhere in your tank.
One of my fish dissapeared in Jauary,I found its rotting corpse in June inside an ornament.I had previously removed the ornament and looked inside,it was only when its body floated out that I found it.

i have natural gravel iun my tank and my plec has dug down 2 inches before and hid for 3 or 4 days. wen i couldnt find him after looking and looking i took the gravel out and he swam around i would say you shoud try this or atleast move the gravel or sand around.
