Miss Wiggle - Question About Your Avatar

hi! I cant remember what the type of fish is that you have in your avatar, (cold meds have me a little hazed right now) but I saw a bunch at our LFS, but they have them in like 9 diffrent colors, wierd ones, some are like bright purple, pink, yellow, and other strange colors... is that normal? or even healthy, while i was looking at them, another customer came up and said she bought some blue ones a few months ago and now they are back to the orangish color. I love these fish, but do not want to buy from a fish store with sick or unhealthy fish.. what does this 'coloring' do to them? and what is the name of these fish? I would like to research them more before I get them (what others are compatible, min size tank, etc.)

we will be getting a 55 gal in a few months and would love to get some, they are so cute. should i order online since our LFS does this, or is this normal... thanks so much! (you have been a great help in all of this, I have learned alot from you - and everyone else here!)

The fish is a parrot fish, and the different coloured ones you have seen are because they have been dyed

I would urge you NOT to buy any of these, as it simply encourages the trade

I'll see if I can find some links for you, to illustrate why the practice of dying is so barbaric and shouldn't be supported...

thanks! I had a feeling they were dyed, hense why i didnt want to buy them, i knew (from here) that dyed is no good, but I would like to see the links to know what happens, i may bring them to the LFS, the girl I asked acted like it was normal. it sounds horrible! I also heard that in south Florida, there is a store that will tattoo a fish with sayings and such, those people should be in jail, it is cruel!

thanks for the quick reply! They are beautiful fish in their natural state, why does anyone need to dye them?!?!

yup mines a blood parrot, the purple ones will ahve been dyed, definately don't buy them and personally i would stop shopping there too!
