Ok, I don't know how happy i am but anyways, my convicts were introduced to an uncycled tank about 10 days ago and in about 3 days they were very slow sick looking and just stayed in one position for long periods of time. Of course i knew it was because i did not cycle the tank. (This was before alien anna whipped me with a spiked metal cane concerning the lessons about fish cycling) Anyway, the convicts were not happy at all, so i needed a miricle.

I had heard about this product many talked about called 'Bio-Spire' or something like that, a 'instant cycle' or cycle in a few days, but i could not find it in the LFS. So I purchased a powdered substance called, 'Sure Start'. I put 2 teaspoons in my 10 gallon (1 teaspoon per 5 gallon) that night. The next morning I hoped the best. Usually when fish are not feeling well they never eat, but today, oh yes, today was different!

As I slowly leaned over the tank, shakily taking out some fish flakes from my cabinet, I took some flakes from the packet and sprinkled some on the surface of the water. I sat and waited. Success! The 2 convicts ate it all! They had eaten for the first time in about a week, and had also, swam normaly for the first time in a week!

Apparently this substance did somehow work out properly. I rarely get success this good with my fish, so I just shared it with the rest.

KEWL so there is some good that comes out of not cycling a tank... may have to try that one :p :p :hyper:

Glad to hear its working out for you. Keep us posted on that new product, although do remember that no bacteria product can instantly colonise a tank - it'll still take a few weeks. But if this stuff helps, we'd all like to hear about it.

ok, tanx for the tips too. so far, so good. I'll let you know how it goes in the future.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. :)

Not to be a party pooper but you do realize that 2 cons can't live in a 10g tho right? ;)

uh, no? how big do they gro smb? and why do they need a big tank?

because if u have any other fish in there they will get eaten or nipped beacause convicts grow quite big and their territory is normally about 12" and then they will let other fish have the rest of the tank

are convicts only aggressive when they are a breeding pair? or are they simply aggressive fish being whatever gender?

.. u mean when they arent feeling good they don't eat? when i put the food in my dwarf neon rainbows don't touch it.. but quite abit of it ends up gone.. is it because they do not like the food or they aren't happy.. :X

Males get to about 6" and females around 5" in general.
