I think most of you know about my goldfish, but in case you dont, here is a rundown....

- 4 goldfish
- 10 gal. tank

simple enough, eh? :p

Can I add a couple mini puffers without them having turf wars, or fin nipping contests?

sorry to be the bearer of bad news all the time but i think puffers are quite terratorial so if you where going to add any they probably would nip each other and the goldfish and thease are also tropical and would need a heater and a filter to cope with the bio load. the gold fish are not normally tropical and tend to get a little jumpy at anything highter than 76 they will be ok at 78 for quite a while but its not there idea situation.puffers would be ok at this temp and they would survive but i would say not more than one if the gold fish are in there and i advise there would be a strong rish that the goldfish would look a little stumpy after a few weeks. are they commet gold fish?

commet gold fish are just the "standard" gold fish. right? if so, yes, i believe they are. 3 are gold/orange and one is silver...

i would say they are the most hard and the most common but there are other less sleak versions. i would wait till some one like puffer pack has a look at the post before commiting your self to getting dwarf puffers they are a wonderfull fish too keep but im not shur i have seen him recomend many fish that will go well with them.

I would have to agree with Jamnog, the Goldfish need much cooler water to be healthy, and even if they were tropical they would become the puffers play toy and be finless within a couple of days. :(

Jamnog, bad news is better than no news. It is better I learn before I bring the fish home... like the shark yesterday... So, thank you!

glad to be of help sorry to hear you cant accomidate the fish but if you wait a while and look into the tanks setup and read up then soon you will be able to keep any fish you like. there is nothing i like to see more than someone who cares about the fish they keep so the thanks go to you.

IMO, it is better to keep just goldfish together or just tropicals and not to mix the two. Goldfish are very messy fish that produce a lot of ammonia and I always heard that they emit a slime coating that isn't good for other fish, not sure how true that is. Tropicals need warmer water and that warmer water will kill a goldfish.

Also not sure what size tank you have but most goldfish get to be pretty large. I have a friend who put a couple of feeders into his pond in his yard and they are already around 6 inches long so you have to consider how big these fish can get before thinking of adding others.

:D You are only half right there.... I have been PMing back and forth a couple times, and we came up with another way to allow me to have both puffers, and goldies, not in the same tank, mind you, but I get the best of both worlds... :hyper:

I cant wait! :D Thanks for your help, and everyone else who has contributed as well...

Im sure if you are not to attached to your gold your dealer will take them back and my even give you a bit of money towards your puffers. If you are talking about dwarf puffers im almost certain that it would be fine to keep them alone in the ten gallon.

Ive setup the 2.5 gal tank and the puffers seem to be quite happy. they scared the crap out of me last night when they went to "sleep". I had never seen a fish do that, so I was like "oh NO! I killed them!"... then I looked up some info online, and realized that they were fine. This morning they were still sleeping when I got up, and about 20 minutes later, they were kinda stirring... not even fully awake it seemed. :p They are cute too... (I know, bad word for a guy to use, but its true)

I love em already

lol

Just a note about the goldfish.... I have a ryukin, and I'm not sure that they require the same as comet. But after some research, I conclude that you should keep one gold per 10 gallons if you are keeping them for life. I just relocated mine to a 10 gallon and I'm only adding a cory and a snail to his domain. Sorry I don't have the links to back up my opinion!

I appreciate your opinion, and I have been told the same thing, but to be completely honest with you, I think that is a little extreme and I am not going to do it. Thank you for your thoughts though
