well im temped to get my self a nice betta a white one would be nice but i was woundring wot i would need to set up a tank for Him and how much would it cost to set up a betta tank

Thank you Guppy :D

Well it all depends...you could have quite a nice setup in a little 5 gallon, but if you want to give him more space you can give him a 10 gallon. Money varies on where you go and whether you but a kit or seperate.

Glad to here you will be joining the betta community!

or you could even go 2.5 you can usualy get small bags of colorful gravel and you could get him some fake plants or something. I always get a small ornament for each of my bettas.

Yes, you can have real plants if you like. It's all up to you. I have four bettas and all in different set-ups. My smallest is a very cheap 1 gallon, that is the smallest tank a betta should be in. My next is a two gallon, then a three gallon Eclipse, and then a five gallon hex. The larger ones are easier to care for and you can put in a more varied amount of decor. The small ones require greater attention and way more frequent water changes. It is up to you to decide how much work you want to do, how often, and what kind of decor you want. I am thinking that if you want to do live plants you may want to get a 5 gallon or bigger as it may be easier to care for the tanks and plants together that way.

You will need a tank of the size you choose, substrate of some sort (sand, gravel, marbles...), a de-chlorinator water treatment of some sort, useful tools for cleaning the tank, plants whether fake or real, other decor that you choose, a net, and then the actual fish. I have likely forgotten something but I'm sure someone will fill in the gaps. :D

If you live in the UK you are going to need a heater for the tank as it gets way too cold during the winter months to have a non heated tank with betta in.

So a betta would do well in a small tank like a 1 gallon. You don't need a filter for a betta, right? My little 1gallon set up came with one. Would it hurt a betta?

Pets at home -

this tank

cost me £15

but bear in mind thats with none of the bits i spent:

Tank - £15
heater - £10
gravel - £4
Live plants - £4
Filter - £10 (you would be fine with water changes, my tank currently has a few mollies in it and bettas prefer a calmer water surface)
Light - £4

So £47 :/ man i spent too much :-(

Neons are very nippy and would not be a good tank mate. They also are shoaling fish and the number needed for a shoal would overstock a 5 gallon tank.
