USA,
I might be getting a 75 gallon for my birthday because there is one on sale at the lfs.

There are a few fish that we, being my family like. I am not sure which ones would work, and how many etc.

I know my dad likes sharks. I was thinking maybe a blacl ahark? Or maybe 3 balas instead.

I love texas cichlids , and jack depmseys. they are both quite nice, and I like the color. I also live gold sevs.

My mom loves pink, so I was thinking pink convicts. Maybe a pair.

And my brother likes oscars. He has wanted one for a while. '

I have never had any large cichlids before, so i have no idea at all how i would stock the tank if I got it.

I was told that even I couldn't keep a small school of balas in my 120 since they are so active they would end up banging up against the glass. :dunno:

Jack dempseys are rather aggressive and IMO should be kept on their own. I've just heard lots of bad stories of them killing everything in their tank.

Gold sevs are beautiful and quite peaceful. I think one would do well in a 75 gal.

I wanted an oscar too, but my community fish in my 29 gal. talked me into giving them th 120 gal. ;)

lol. Thats funny about the 29 gallon fish.

a Pizza place that i go to has a tank, I am not sure of the size, but it is from the lfs because it is like 3 seconds away, and it has 3 jack dempseys, and they fight once and a while, but usually are quite nice to eachother.

and a pair mean a breeding pair. otherwise I would have said just 2 cons. see? You could read about that in the cichlid cookie cutters for 20 long I believe.

breeding pairs of convicts get AMAZINGLY territorial around breeding time. Basically if they feel they can kill off a or some fish, they will. This is to reduce the future threat on their fry.

I have a beautiful pair of actively breeding convicts which I've recently given their own tank. Although I had no casualties I don't want to put any of my fish through the stress of that again.

The list of fish you mentioned sounds like a list of fish that could all get along. Make the convict pair a single convict and he/she can add in also. Now the hard part, one of each of the listed fish would go well in a 400 Gal tank... so now edit your list to a total of two or three of those fish and then get a little guidance.

which would you recomend, if any for a 75 gallon?

I’m a massive Oscar fan so that's what I'd do with it. A good blend might be one Oscar, one JD and one Texas. To my taste that sounds like an awesome tank. The Oscar will probably be the least aggressive (oz for oz) but he will definitely out grow the others and very well may be the 'king of the tank'. I've never had a Sev but from what I've heard they could replace the Oscar in the above comments would still hold true. A convict could also replace any of the 3 first mentioned fish. I wouldn't get the Oscar and the Sev though as that would be too many large fish for 75 Gal. I’m not much of a shark guy so I have nothing to add pertaining to them. But for the love of Dad ask someone who knows so we don't leave him out :p

Yea, it was basically the fact that I REALLY need to add to their groups and I don't think I have enough room in the 29 gallon to do so. A lot of my fish died due to an unknown nitrite spike in my 29 gallon and so now I only have like 2 glass cats when they should be in a group of atleast 6 and 1 blue german ram.

I agree with nutcase on this one. I have actaully had a 55 gallon tank with a jack, black oscar, and a green sevrum...it was a buitiful mix, they seemed to get along great but i knew when i put them in there the 55 wouldnt be big enough for long so i had to seperate them all in all it was a good mix...now im interested to know what you descide so keep us posted

Hi im a newbie here and thought id add my 2 cents...

although im tankless now(just getting back into it)iv owned several tanks incl.2,75 gallon tanks...my fish of choice has always been chiclids...

firemouths, jack dempsey's,texes and Convicts will all fit together...imho oscars don`t do to good with these fish as they seem to hang out at the top, leaving the door wide open to bites on there bottom...part of the fun in owning these types of fish is watching them gain control of there territory.iv watched fish lock jaws for over 1/2 hour..i also watched a Texes go at it with a red belly pariana, and win!!!now of course those were my younger days when i was just plain dumb..

my pride and joy was "KING"a 14 inch JD that would feed right from my hand..not my finger tips, but my palm,i had her for many years.

good luck-
