since my tanks population seems to be inhabiting the bottom half of the tank I'm thinking that when i add some more I need to get somit to make use of the top half.

Any recommendations?

At the mo I have 6 dwarf neon rainbows (praecox), 5 silvertip tetras & 3 cory pandas in a 24"x15"x20" tank (25uk GL)

:)

yes, i think hatchets are a great choice!

Marbled or silver hatchet fish are probably the best choice of surface dwelling fish in a community tank, other choices would be live bearers such as platties, mollies or swordtails. Other than that the choice is somewhat limited as most surface dwelling fish have predatory natures and will prey upon small fish like tetras.

Make sure you have some plants at the top of the tank for the hatchets to hide in. Either a cluster of floating plants or some plants growing up from the bottom that reach the surface. Hatchets are lovely fish, make sure you have a good top though coz they can fly.

Strangely since the tank move fiasco on Friday and a slight decor rearrange and thinning out of plants the fish are using lots more space. So i'm not so fussed now.

I had a look at some hatchets today and I kept expecting them to open their mouths and a trapped fish to swim out :D

I ended up buying a pair of Black Phantom tetras. So much for uppertank dwellers huh

Cheers for the response tho. :)
