Hi all have been experimenting and have found that a slice of bread and brewers yeast sprinkled on the top last a lot longer than oatmeal etc i have had two of each running and both bread ones are still going with no horrid smell while the oatmeals have gone off.....anyone else tried anything else that lasts 3 months or more and the amount of worms seem to be a lot more as well

I use instant mashed potatoes and yeast. It doesn't smell as bad as the oatmeal, and lasts a long time too. The MW really thrive on it. Some people like to use Cherrios and yeast. I know several people who like the bread and yeast. It doesn't really matter too much on what the medium is, as the yeast feeds on it, and cause's mold to grow. the MW feed on the mold. Getting the right amount of yeast in the culture is the important part. Not enough yeast, and there is not enough mold. Too much yeast, and you see mold forming on the surface of the culture. The best thing about the bread or the potatoes, is the smell isn't as bad as the oatmeal.
