I was thinking about joining a local fish communtiy. Those of you from Michigan, do you know of any good ones? Anyone else - what type of experience have you had with fish groups?
i'm not familiar with any fish groups in Michigan (since i'm from Australia).
But the the fish clubs over here they usually have a meeting once a month where they have a guest speaker who gives a talk on certain fish and fish related topics. This is usually followed by a small auction and sales time when members can buy products and fish from other members. There are also 'Fish Contests' scattered throughout the year along with prizen for breeding fish, etc.
If you have a fish club/society in your area i strongly reccomend you join, it opens up a whole new world of fish keeping
Becca I am also from MI, and the only fish group that I know of is the Michigan Cichlid Association, I am sure that there are many others out there espically close to or around Detroit or Lansing, or Grand Rapids however because I am WAY the heck North of either one it really isn't worth my time to look for them
i am from south florida, so don't know of anything in michigan. but if you can find one i think it would be good to join it. wish i could find one here, the best thing i have found is the family across the street from me. they have 2 10 gal tanks and 8 kids under 10. she has never changed her water and just adds more to cover evaporation. she also has a 10" common pleco in one of them that they are planning to "release into the wild" because he is getting to big. wish i had someone who knows what they are doing to talk to. that's why i love this forum
♂ Hi Becca... I'm on the other side of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin,
lived in Grand Rapids for awhile. I am positive there are at least one or two
generic aquarium hobbyist societies there in Michigan, and not just specific
to cichlids. If you can get a copy of Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine, in the
back they have a very good listing of fish groups nationwide, and I'm sure I've
seen Michigan/Detroit area listings.
