Not likely, as a captive ropefish can grow as long as two feet. I would say 55 gallons minimum.

Well I found him tonight. My water started smelling a little foul so I figured that darn thing must be in the tank. I checked in the filters again with no luck. Sifted through the gravel and still no luck. So I decided to check my resin tree stumps for the 3rd time. This time I took them out of the tank and as soon as I smelled the one I knew that I'd found him. He got down in one of the hollow roots. I had to break the bottom off to get him out.

Was it alive? I have the exact same stump and ironically, its the one that my rope loves to use. If he was really stuck, I might have to consider removing mine. I don't know though, like I said, mine's been living in it for over a year now.

He was dead. That's why I had the bad smell.
He was stuck pretty good too. I thought I was gonna pull him apart when I was removing him.

i filled mine with gravel just to prevent what happened to you-Anne

We too have the exact same stump, and our Fire eel (Achilles) lives in it.

I may have to reconsider after what happened to your ropey though.
