It will be only a temp home while owner sorts there own tank out but donot want to risk my own fish if it is not any good

I'm not sure there is a fish called a Mexican Cichlid but im no expert. you have to be very. Careful because if you don't know what it is and you put it in with your little guppies, it could rip them to shreds. I'd get a pic or describe it if you have seen it

there are lots of cichlids from Mexico. a picture is needed to ID the fish. with it being a CA region i wouldnt risk it with smaller fish as most are quite aggressive.

As others have said, you need to be very careful, there are numerous common Central American cichlids in the hobby that are not just opportunist piscivores but outright predatary, if you cannot ID the fish in question you really should isolate it.

And besides, why would you risk your existing fish to something that might be infectious on this cichlid by introducing the new fish upon returning home? I've suffered the consequences of this the hard way, each new purchase gets a quarantine period of at least two weeks, not only to be happy the fish are disease free but also to ensure they are eating readily.

Mexican Flag Cichlid? Cichlasoma Grammodes?

Hope you're not keen on the fish you already have.

Hi I never found out the exc type of mexican cichild it is , but it is around 5 inches at mo . The reason the gentleman moved his fish was because it was a bully to all his other fish so I have not taken the fish in as the welfare of my own fish is more important and I have a happy tank :good:
Thankyou for all the replies as I have found to recieve the best advice on this forum :good:
