Met the most gorgeous budgie today

He has sat on my finger!!! Aw, he's gorgeous! I am teaching him to say 'aal reet' (a Geordie, peiple from Newcastle England) phrase.

He's doing well. Been eating millet, nearly ventured out of his cage and sat on my finger twice!!

YAY!! :D

I want Symon!!! He is so pretty.... Ive never had a budgie before but i think im in love!lol Im gonna go and fill my 2 spare cages with budgies now! lol

He sounds like he's going to tame down with no problem!! You're very lucky, it took me MONTHS just to get my cockatiel to sit on me!lol Keep up the work with him and he'll be cuddly as you could want in a couple of months!! :D

Now... I demand more pics!! :D lol

I will get some when he is out of his cage as that is when he will be at his best and more natural IMO.

He is lovely, isn't he?! I am so glad I got him, I think he was meant for me. I just hope that his cage is big enough. I know it's only for sleeping and eating but I still want him to have a nice home.

Do you think it's ok for 2 'free range' (except at night) budgies?

That cage looks fine for him! :) It should be ok for two if theyre only going to be sleeping in it!! :) You can always buy a bigger one later if you decide they need one! But they should be fine!

The only thing i would suggest is maybe a couple of toys for him? Budgies in particular love mirrors!! And anything to chew on and break really.. lol Maybe even some bell and rope toys? You can get the at most pet shops! Just make sure that the thing inside the bell has no sharpe parts as they may damage his beak! Molly wont be without her bells!lol

I think he has a lovely little home there and he looks happy, and VERY proud in it! :D Such a cutie...

Jess, everything I have read on budgies recently says to not buy them a mirror because they get too attached to it and can drive themselves a bit demented. :/

I am sure I will get him some stuff soon, but I don't want to clutter the cage.

He has a a good rest (about 12 hours) and is looking very happy today and is chirping at me every now and again.

Lol! No mirror then! :D But he'll love some rope toys and stuff!! Just be prepared to keep having to replace things... birds can be quite destructive...lol Even with a little beak like Symons!!

I was thinking some ropey things might be a good idea and a tennis ball for rolling on the floor.

Well, Symon came out of his cage fir the first time today. I was not there, had gone for a sleep, and he flew into the window. He is ok and I have put the blinds down so he won't be doing that again. At the moment he is sitting on the floor near the guinea pigs.

Other than him flying into the winow, I am really glad that he has come out so soon.

:D

Well, here's some!! It's hard to get a totally non-blurry one but here's what I got of Sy a moment ago. he's currently sitting on the window ledge looking out the window and chirping every now and again.

He really likes the bowl that is to the right of him and I put some seeds in it for him.

A bit blurry, sorry...

Awwwww, lovely Symon!!

He landed on where the guinea pigs live before and the pigs did not seem bothered!

Edit:

Just got another. There's no stopping me! :D Here's Sy surveying the world around him. He's been sitting looking out of the window for about 10 minutes now!

Aww He's lovely
But just some friendly advice from someone who has four budgies . Don't leave him out of the cage unsupervised as he could have an accident e.g flying into window, getting stuck in a strange place, claws getting caught in material. only let him out when someone is about sounds horrible but its for their own safety and that age is a big size for one budgie and hes got enough room to flap his wings!!.

For toys i find my budgies love swings and bells!! :p

You can also feed them the leafy bits on celery, lettuce special bird treats, grapes and my parents old budgie loved cold chips!! :p

As for training remember to repeat and repeat but it sounds like your off to a good start !! In the day leave the radio on so he has company! :D

Whats to bet he's looking at all the birds outside !! My budgies duck everytime they see a seagull fly past!!

My budgies also start squaking everytime they here a diesel car outside because they think its my boyfriend coming home.
:p

Be warned budgies also have a habit of chewing things especially hair, towels and wood one of mine has actually eaten a whole in the wall as well!

all the research Ive done recently says not to give them mirrors if you want it to talk. and to rotate their toys every one or two days so they dont get bored. I had to buy my budgie a ladder today becuase her clipped wings mean she cant get all the way up to many surfaces in my room!!!

she's costing me a fortune all ready!! definitely worth it.

Update on Symon...

Awwwww, he's gorgeous!! He's happy to come out now, he is responsive and I am sure that he copied a whistle I made earlier!!! I got him some toys and some treats. I changed the water container to a bottley one (the one with a little tray like think at the bottom) and also got him some treats and bell toys.

:)
