Hi,

Im wanting to cover certain areas of my new tank desgin with Ricca howver im trying to find some mesh to place it on so i can make it the shape i want it to be.

Ive found some here but im not sure i want to wait two weeks for it as that how long my stuff has taken to get here from the seller before.

Does anyone here have any idea's where i could pick something up that would be suitable to tie ricca down on?

Many Thanks :)

Not seen that stuff before! However, forget it and go get some hair nest, really cheap, wouldn't rot and do a great job of holding the riccia down. I used cotton when I did my nano and the riccia is growing at funny angles where its not properly secured, I'm gonna re do it with hairnets to get a much more even 'ball' shape when it grows.

Im looking for something to tie the ricca to. Not to tie the ricca down . I already use hairnets to tie my ricca down usually to rocks or slate but i want to create a custom shape and therefore need a mesh type thing to si can cut to my desired shape?

Sorry if im confusing anyone :)

How about chicken mesh from B&Q? You can sculpt that to whatever you want.

James (jimbooo) used a combo of slate and crate for his designs and theyre damn good.

Seen those too. Im aware id have to weight the mesh down with someslate but i have no crates near me i can just cut up lol :D

What about plastic craft canvas?
That could work.

Have thought of this too. Would they sell something like that in WHSmith's?

Looking for something quite close to home to save treking out. Not many crafty type shops around here (that i know of). maybe somehwere like wilkinsons would sell it hmm.

Thanks by the way :good:

B&Q sell similar mesh to the one you link to, problem is I can't remember what metal it is, I know they do it in brass, and I think they do it in stainless steel as well, if you're only down the road then it might be worth a look.

I dont think WHsmiths would have it. Any craft store would though but as you say theres not many around here. I know there is one in Wells. That's where i got some plastic craft canvas.

That mesh on ebay is metal and I wouldn't like to put it in my tank.

TOP TIP
The shower net scrubbers that you can get from sainsburys. Cut the cord that holds it together and it is like a 20ft long tube of netting. Is useful for suspending accross the top of the water and letting the riccia GROW out or just as netting for tie ing the Riccia down, and also if you want to redo at a later stage, theres loads left.

I saw the blue plastic stuff in the posted topic about how to do riccia, and it looked to me like a container I used to see at work (friut and veg shop) which contained mushrooms and other vegetables. So try going to a market, or veg shop and see if they got any.

That's a genius idea! Will nab my misses one next time she replaces it :shifty:
