Ok i have had another look at the fish

apistogramma
Gourami
Bolivian rams
Guppies
Serpae + X-ray Tetras
blue apple snail
Beta
Corys (panda)
Cherry Shrimp
Ghost Shrimp
African Dwarf Frog (do they need land or can they just swim to the top)

So can you give me some different variations of what i can have from this list, amounts of each etc..

Thanks

The Apistos will eat the shrimp.
The frogs I would leave as they are a bit specialist.
Corys need to be in a group of at least 6 so probably wont work unless you just have a cory tank.
guppies will breed like rabbits unless you get all male ones.

Its not a huge tank so you are a bit limited.

You could have

6 tertas & a pair of apistos.

or

6-8 corys with some shrimp

or

a shrimp & snail tank

There are lots more combinations so I will hand the bation over to the next guy.

Thanks Tom, i would like a bit more variety if possible thanks for the reply ;)

7.6 last time i checked, not out of cycle yet though

youl have to see what pH your tank tends to be before you decide fish as every fish has a preference. Easiest way is to treat a bucket/bowl of water exactly as you would before you add to your tank (dechlorinator etc) and leave it for 24hrs for the gasses to gas off - this will be your general pH, unless your adding bogwood which will drop your pH.
Im limited as my water has a pH of 8 and i dont like bogwood so ive got to have fish who like their water a little highe in pH than usual.

What makes wood 'bogwood'.

Do I have to find it in a bog - sorry Im joking. No seriously though, I found a scrap of wood lying in my garden and dropped it in the tank for decor. And my PH has risen since I threw it away yesterday which was interesting.

I genuinely dont know what makes bogwood bogwood, but, Id be very wary about "a scrap of wood lying in my garden and dropped it in the tank for decor"..... it could have pesticides or anything on which could be harmful to your fish.

Yeh that did sound a bit dumb. I have firewood that we gather from a remote hillside so it should be nice and harmless, it was quite a bonny little piece but its gone now anyway. I dont have any fish yet, Im just starting a fishless cycle.

bogwood is wood thats started to fossilise and yes, its found in bogs....peat bogs normally :) Often thousands of years old.
