Melanistius, Schwartzis Or Other?

Hi, brand new to Corys & I got 4 of these lovely things 2 days ago from my LFS. He said he reckoned they were melanistus, but after researching on these forums I reckon they might be schwartzis.

Waddaya reckon folks?



BTW, I know I need at least a few more but there were only 4 left so I thought I'd hold out & try to get more of the same type at a later date.

They're very active & seem to be really enjoying my set-up along with...

5 X Zebra Danios
1 X Male Guppy
2 X Female Guppy
2 X Blue Rams


Only slight concern, I put some cucumber in for them earlier today & they ain't touched it.

Can't do ID's, but I can tell you that corys aren't vegetarians - they're omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. I'd say that is why they haven't touched the cucumber! Have you any sinking food or bloodworm or something to put in there for them?

I'm sure somebody who knows their corys better than I can help with the ID

I haven't got anything specialised for them food wise yet, but they are taking the flake food from the tank floor.

I'll go get some sinking food for them tomorrow.

100% defo not c.melanistius. They are spotted but share the similair high dorsal fin as the ones you have. They do look very much like c.schwartzi, can you get any better pics of them, preferably side on ??

I agree, they do look like Corydoras schwartzi, but a better picture would definately help.

I bet 99% is Schwartzi, Melanistius didn't have dots line like Schwartzi. More likely LFS carries Schwartzi than Melanistius.

I still say Corydoras schwartzi. What were they labeled as when you bought them?

Just as corydoras. He has assorted different corys in different tanks & just has one sign saying ..

All corydoras catfish £3

I'm just about sure they're schwartzis. I was in another local LFS this morning picking up a chocolate zebra pleco & he has what appeared to be the same Corys labelled as schwartzi. They're probably from the same supplier.

Id say it was a schwartzi. Even though this fish doesnt have that much of a black patch over its eye but its still there
