Ok, I have started using some Melafix for a small (probably) fungal infection on one of my kuhli loaches. The bottle says to use 5ml for every 10 US gallons (40 litres). Repeat dose daily for seven days and then do a 25% water change.

Questions:

1. Would it be safe to do water changes before the seven days have elapsed?

2. This is for my 42 UK gallon tank, anyone know how much Melafix I should use?

3. After the 7 days if all is OK, do I need to do anything else other than the 25% water change (add carbon etc)?

Thanks

I can help with no 2. - 42 UK gallons = 190.68 litres :)

I can't help with the other questions though :(

Cheers, Eddie

Thanks Eddie just worked it out myself too

More questions:

4: Should I raise the temperature?

5. Should I increase or decrease lighting times?

6. Should I cut back on feeding?

Sorry for all the questions, this is the first disease I've had in my 10 months of fishkeeping.

TAA -

1. It would be safe yes, but this willl just remove and dilute the melafix, so theres no need to

2. U allready worked out yes?

3. U can add the carbon if u like, but it wont hurt the fish if u dont

4. No

5. No

6. Yes, just abit, this will help keep the water quality up

:)

Also,

Melafix reduces the oxgen conten of the water. Keep an eye on the fish, if they are gasping add an airstone.

Ummm dunno m8.. whenever i use it i add an airstone, so if the surface does get cloudy, i wouldn't see it.....

Try adding an airstone for a bit of surface agitation, that will get rid of it...
