Meet my new boys!
After my sad experience with Jack, my first Betta, I decided to get my self another one. Taking my niece along we went to the shop and sifted through 100s of choices for quite a bit… needless to say the betas were kept in tiny pill cups, the water so dirty you could hardly see the betta inside, and I don’t want to talk about the smell.
Finally we made our choice, but came home with THREE rather than just one
. Heh. I know I don’t have much space at home for two more tanks, but I couldn’t help it. Since we both Role play a lot, We decided to name them after our characters (and it turns out they are quite alike!) Here they are:
They weren’t in the best condition, Elak who seems in great shape except for a thin black line along his tail… I’m hoping it’s not fin rot. Saran had his tail shredded by another betta that jumped into his cup (so said the shop keeper) but I loved his character and attitude so I bought him anyway, hopefully his tail will grow back. He is already so beautiful, I can’t imagine what he looked like with his whole tail.
Khoon was love at first site, though he is the calmest of them all. I felt he was somewhat ‘depressed’ when I got him, not swimming much, fins clamped up and hardly flaring at his reflection, but after putting him in a nice big bowl with clean treated water, he has been improving a lot.
All of them look healthy, and are swimming about, flaring and eating (today I gave them a bit of shrimp, and they went haywire over it!) I’m hoping that this time my betas will last for a long time to come
