Meet my new wet pets My first pet frogs ever. I saw them in the shop and just fell in love. I was incredibly tempted to buy them there and then but knew I couldn't just buy and animal not knowing the first thing about them. So I took the risk and went away to read up a ton of info on them. Rather hoping that they'd be gone by the next week (I go in once a week to buy fresh bloodworms for the fish). But also hoping they'd still be there. And they were!
I was also a bit hesitant because I read that wild caught ones often struggle to adjust and have a tendency to die on newbie owners
But luckily these came from someone who's kept them for ages, but had to rehome them - and they ended up in my shop who usually never stock Red Eyed Tree frogs.

Anyway - here they are. I have no clue if they are in fact male and female, but Nancy and Drew just sprang to mind

Here's Nancy giving me a quick peek. But Drew was too sleepy from his long journey home, so he just chilled with his eyes closed.

And here's a pic of what they looked like in full colour! (not my pic - just googled). Hopefully soon I can add some similar pics of them.

in the second to last picture,
The frogs eyes are all cracked

Is that just normal? Beause I know nothing about these little fellas

what size tank are they in? They are awesome

In a 20 gallon at the moment - but in the next couple of weeks I'm going to upgrade them to a 45x45x60cm tall (around 30 gallons tall) Exo Terra - as they really need the height.

are they noisy? only place we could possibly keep frogs is the bedroom, wouldn't want to be kept awake at night!

Ah thanks well for the moment just little crickets which is their main diet. But they can eat some other goodies too - and I'll see if I can hunt some down online. The adults (which is what they are) only need feeding every couple of days. But you can get cricket dispensers too where they can live for up to a week and as they crawl out, the froggies snap them up. So I'll just have to keep a close eye on them to make sure that they are eating well. But in terms of their requirements, the basics are easy peasy and very simple.

Not at all (noisy). Mostly silent and if they do make a sound, it's actually lovely - if you listen to the sound file on this page (it's about half way down.

And one of the factors that really clinched the deal for me was the fact that they eat "silent" crickets! I though they guy in the shop was pulling my leg just to get me to buy them - but he wasn't!


And the perfect thing is that these chappies sleep during the day (when I'm at work) and are active at night - when I'm at home!
It just doesn't get much better than that really - well apart from the fact that they aren't exactly cheap

I love RETFs but its not a species i have ever owned,maybe one Day though
