I went to a reptile expo a couple weekends ago, with the intention to NOT buy anything and only to talke to Bearded Dragon breeders. Well, I walked out with the Crested Gecko I'd been wanting for ages, and also an unexpected new critter, a Rosy Boa. We've named the boa Boomer and gecko Betty. I finally got some pictures, not the best, but you know how those reptile are, always shying away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.
Enjoy!

The container I carried him home in, don't worry, he has a 20L all to himself now:

My fiance was like a little kid when he saw I'd brought home a snake:

Too much, considering he's such a small little guy. But totally worth it. He's such a great pet, relatively clean, quiet, easy to take care of. Why I didn't get a snake sooner I have no idea. :D

Cool pics, MAM!

BTW - do you still have the Cattle dog you were fostering?

Thanks cometcattle. And yes, still have Tango by the way, we plan to adopt him in September, after our move, if the "perfect family" hasn't shown up by then. Figure if we still have him then, he was meant to be ours. If you look at the edge of the table in picture six, you'll see his orange/white ears. He was fascinated by the snake. Wanted to "help" hold it I think.... ;)

Weststar, the rosy boa WILL one day move up to eating furries, but for now he's enjoying his pinkies. Rosy boas are recommended as a beginners snake as they are easy to care for and only reach around 3-4 ft in length. But they're not cheap.

Oooo I love Betty !

Uh Boomer is nice, but not really my "type" -_-

I'm happy to hear it. Congrats! :D I think he's already found the "perfect family".

Now I see his ears. He just wants to welcome the snake to the family. :shifty:

Son once owned a 5' Red Albino Cornsnake. I would never have guessed that I would like a snake, but "Jezebel" had character. She used to come out of her cave in the morning when I was making the coffee (she lived in an enclosure on the bar between the kitchen and living room). Her forked tongue would dart all over the place as she slithered around. Son regularly handled her and she seemed rather mellow.

She would only eat live rats. When Son joined the army, neither Hubby nor I could stand to feed the poor rats to Jezebel so we found her a home with a friend who had raised snakes before.

Oh my gosh they are just the cutest little things! If only I had the stomach, or heart, to feed them live rodents, I would have a million.

They are both lovely but I think the boa is especially nice isn't he gorgeous.

Orkybetta I have had a corn snake that has never eaten a live rodent, If you get a snake already eating defrosted rodents there will never be a need to feed them live food.

Chook, you really wouldn't like the boa then. You can feel the tiny constrictions it makes when you're holding it. Its weird, yet cool at the same time. And he's not slimy.

As he's a juvie the snake is only eating defrosted frozen pinkies. And when he gets bigger, he'll move up defrosted frozen furries. No live foods. Not because I'm squeemish about it, but more because I'd end up keeping more of the mice than I'd end up feeding them to the snake..................... Among other reasons.
