I've been treating my new betta for 3 days now for the beginings of columnaris. Thankfully it seems to be gone :)

Anyways the medication says to use an air pump while treating..well...my cat Moby who freaks out at night and runs around like a nut ran into the cords and knocked it off the table and I'm pretty sure it's broken. So now I dont have an air pump.

Question is when you guys treat your bettas for diseases do you use air pumps and if not are your bettas ok??

It might be able to be fixed but if not it doesnt look like I'll be able to get a new one anytime soon. They cost about 35-40 US dollars here :X DARN CAT!!! :sly: :p

I think the point of the air pump is to make sure the medicine is even in the water. Just gently stir it with your hand or something, and save yourself 40 bucks ;)

Some medications take oxygen out of the water. That is why they recommend using an air pump. As long as you are doing small water changes and stirring the water up occasionally you might be able to get by without one. Shame you aren't in the U.S. My LFS was clearing out one brand of air pump for $1.99 each and I bought several as backups.

Glad to hear your betta is doing better. :)

Well thankfully my boyfriend took the air pump apart and was able to fix it...there was something loose inside so he just had to glue it back. I'm originally from Michigan so I know in America you can find things for so cheap..it's hard living here because I find myself always saying "Oh my gosh that's expensive in... America you could get that for....." I usually just say it to my boyfriend because I'd imagine if I said it to too many people they would be annoyed by me  :p

Still though 1.99 for an air pump what I'd do to find prices like that here

It's a good price for here, too. That's why I bought a couple even though I didn't need them. :D
