Media ?

I have a 36 gallon tank that is just not cycling due to bad info from LFS. I now have a 55 gallon tank that is cycled and has a HOB filter with 2 filter charcoal pads and 2 bio media pads. I want to know if I can put some of the media from the 55 tank into the 36 to help cycle it, or if putting in some of the gravel from the 55 tank would help.

I would put one of the pads in the new filter. Of course put a new pad in the old to replace. Then take some of the fish from the established tank (to lessen the bioload) and put them in the new tank. It's debateable whether putting gravel from the established tank would help. I've always thought it would.

EDIT: To clarify, I would NOT use the established gravel alone to help cycle. Definitely use the filter media. If you want to add some of the gravel as well, that would be ok. Maybe would help, maybe not, and not necessary.
