Looks "hazy" Nitrates provide food for brown algaes, so seeing a lot of brown algae could indicate high nitrates. You better not wait for any signs though. Just do a few extra water changes till your test kits arive.

Let's see if I can keep my last pleco alive. Thanks 4 the help
