Hi, I have 1 dalmation molly, 1 beautiful yellow PREGNANT molly & a female betta in my tank. The dalmation molly does nothing but chase & nip at everyone :( The prego one has been prego for a very long time now it seems, & I'm assuming almost constantly being chased doesnt help.

What would you do in this situation? I'm not sure of any lfs's that will take him/her in, & I don't think any of my fish loving friends would want it either.

I have a 2 gallon, w/ baby fry in it at the moment. Would that be too small to house a molly?

you can take the mean fish out for a little, rearange the tank, and let nice fish reajust for a bit. then reintroduce the mean fish. sometimes this makes them uncomfortable in a new situation and they dont become the domonant fish in the tank. on the other hand, this is the perfect reason to buy a new tank ;)

hehe I just told my boyfriend that I should just get a new tank ;) If only I had the room...

I don't want to put him in w/ the fry, but I'm afraid to move them into the 10 gallon. Theyre about 1 month old & around 1/2" long (the biggest ones anyway), would this be ok? When I found them my female betta thought one was a snack, but it hid under the bubble thing.

hmm, maybe I do need another tank...

I like FJ's idea of rearanging the tank. You could buy a breeder net to put the fry in, but I think a 2.5g is too small for a molly.

I would do what FJ said first. If it doesnt work, I'd go out and buy another 10g. You can pick up a kit for pretty cheap. You wont regret another tank. :)

Then again, I'd buy another 10g regardless. :shifty:

This is a really good plan, i had to do this when i introduced a large female betta into my 10 gallon with 2 existing smaller female bettas, before the switch over she would chase the other girls around and claimed territory over most of the tank, lol, after i took all the fish out and rearranged everything all 3 fish have been getting along fine. :)

If your dalmation is a male and the only other molly is the preg female the solution may be to add one or two more females. His job is to show off and make babies, if she's the only game in town then he won't leave her alone much. If you add others then it spreads his attentions out a little and makes it easier for the gals. :D

Get yourself a breeding net/trap...put your bully into this....in the meantime, rearraange your tank....leave you male in isolation (in the net/trap) for a few days then reintroduce him back to the tank. Byt this time the other fish will have established a new pecking order and he "most likely" won't bully the other fish anymore. It has always worked for any problem platies I have had!!

* agrees with ---jams.alaskan---* one or two more female platies, (or mollies for that matter) should fix the problem.

At 1/2" long your fry should be ok. When I kept live bearers, I used to reintroduce the babies to the tank when they were even smaller. How long has your molly be pregnant? Are you sure it's not a bloat?
