Owdy peeps!!!

I been looking at my tank for a while now, and its got alot of build up of detritus, i dont vacum very often, so i spose that is my other option, but i was wondering if i could add some cories? I know you need a schoal, so i want too keep a few, so keep this in mind when u read my stock and tank specs below :p , thanx. Im thinkin i have enough already, but i would just like to know. :)

3fter, around 125ltr tank. Planted, and sand substrate.

4 Pearl Gourami
7 Glass cats
3 SAE
12 Harliquins
1 Spiny eel (under 3")

you could probably fit 6 corydoras nicely in there

yes i got 3 albino cories i havent had them long but they are doing fine with my gouramis tetras mollies and guppies
good luck

When it comes to stocking, you could indeed keep a nice shoal of corydoras in there :) However, the not doing a gravel cleaning a lot will have to change. Specially if you have a gravel bottom.

Cories are best kept on sand bottom, seeing as the gravel will shorten their ' whiskers '. This on itself isnt really that bad, seeing as I've never seen a cory act different because of it, however when mixed with a dirty substrate, the chances of the whiskers getting infected is high.

Also, please do notice that cories do not clean the bottom the way people think they do. They do not eat rotten leaves, they do not eat other fish's droppings or any of that. The only way that cories keep the bottom clean is that they eat the uneaten food on the bottom when you slightly overfeed. What they do however tend to do, is when going through the sand, throw some sand over what you can see (dead plants, poo etc) and burry it. This can be good when you've got a lot of plants ... with small gravel and not many plants however, this will be a bad thing.

My opinion? If you've got a sand bottom, go for it!!! If you've got a gravel bottom, still go for it, but vaccuum the bottom properly at least once every 2 weeks.

Thanx Erised, DD, and guppy_man.

Yes, i do have a sand bottum, so its looking good for cories! I did realise that they DONT eat the poo and detritus, but i thought being a very active bottum dweller they would stirup the detritus so my filter could work more effieciently in cleaning the tank. :)

Now i have to sort out what kind i would like!

PS, does anybody know where they come from in the world, ie. Amazon? Sth Est Asia?

heheheh, ill try and post some pics this week...lots of work though.

He is a peacock spiny eel, and he is only just starting to develope colours. He has been cream for a while now. I got him for 12 bucks. And he was the last one too.

I did have two in there, and they didnt fight or anything, but the bigger one, a 4"ish, stopped eating and died.. :( It was because he would only eat garden worms. :/ And he didnt go for blackworms...

But this little guy acepts frozen, so he is fine! Hopefully he will live ages!

I was hoppin they were from Sth East asia cause i have a generaly SthEast asian tank. Any other active bottum dwellers that can go in a planted tank from the Sth east region?
