After several changes I've struck success with my first tank.  My pets are extremely happy in a well cycled environment.  Next a larger tank that will be planted.  I'm hooked!

CONGRATS :D
if you do a planted tank i recommend a dirt substrate and try co2 gas :p fun, and you can let the plants grow without fish so when you add them in the tank is all set up.. so it can be like a plant project lol

Nice looking tank! I have been experimenting with plants in my mbuna tank.  Granted I only have anubias and vals that are fortified by rocks so they can't push them around so easily.  So far so good.

Thanks BB!  I know they will consume most plants (I see my Johanni always nipping at my artificial plants...I mean tugging hard lol) and the breed I have are all omnivores.  I'm moving in another month and then will venture into at least a 55 gal aquarium that will be planted to some extent.

they nip at the vals but they seem to be growing back fast enough to keep up with their consumption.  They have yet to touch the anubias. i spent a little under $20 on plants so if it ends up being a failed experiment so be it.  but im still hopeful it will workout.  It depend on what cichlids you have in your tank as well.  some wont eat plants.

I really like that purple plant, even if it's fake :)
