Hi all . Im new here , we have just in the last few days bought a tropical aquarium . Its a Jewel make , as it seemed like a good buy as it had all the equipment allready ie.... filter, heater, light, hood .
My question is , it has no air bubbles circling around the tank , the filter work very well as you can see the water turning in the tank . Have we got to buy an air pump for adding air into the tank , as we have noticed in the shops they all have lots of air bubbles being pumped in . If we have to buy an air pump we would like a very quiet one , we had one a few years ago and it made a terrible noise all the time . Any pumps on the market now that are silent ?
Sorry for the long post but we are new here , hope you experts can give us some advice please .

u dont really need an air pump i use one on a 42inch tank just to help move some co2 from my bottle connected to the tank.it wont add air to the tank unless its absorbed in to the water! i dont use any air pumps on other tanks, as long as the filter pump outlet pipe agitates the water then enough oxygen should get in, as long as you make regular water changes, filter changes, plants will help they produce with the oxygen as well as long as they looked after. u could use an air pump for a air curtain some tanks look nice with one some dont! your view and choice! others will disagree on points but these are my views!

Hi and welcome. IMO it's not necessary to have an air stone in the tank. The bubbles made by these stones does not add oxygen to the water. Oxygen comes from surface aggitation. If you have the water outlet from the filter just above water surface level, so that it cascades, then that should be enough. What size is your tank, is it planted (plants also add oxygen) and how many fish do you have. Juwel tanks are best for planted aquariums - I have 2 of them, one a heavily planted community tank and the other a cichlid tank with very few plants. This is just my opinion and my experience with juwel tanks.

The tank size is 24 inches by 15inches by 12 inches . The mrs wants a comunity tank I think , I dont mind its just so relaxing to look at , we have real plants in it also , no plastic . We have added no fish as yet . The water still looks rather cloudy , and by looking into the tank from the front up to the surface it looks like miniscule bits are floating on the surface , the tank has been set up for 3 days now and it still seams murky . Why is that ? Any ideas please as we are new to all of this . Thanks once again for being so patient with us .

HiYa and welcome caprimanuk

The tank can take a while to settle down with regards to cloudiness - dont worry :)

As far as bubbles go its really a personal choice if you like the look of them as said before ie. airstones or bubble curtains., but they have negliable affect on the tank conditions.

If you feel you need more airation you can get a 'venturi' - whice is a small hose which will plug into the juwel powerhead and give added bubbles. They can be a little noisey but if you put a little filter floss in the intake this will act as a baffle

keep us upto date with how your tank is going (decisons you make  )
