quite want something a bit different. What do i need to keep a betta? Do you have too keep them all alone. Id fell mean if i had a lonely fish...

if you got a big enough tank you could keep a few cories in with mr betta... male bettas shouldnt be kept together or they will kill each other... females can do the same so if you want females get about 4

so how big is big enough? and what if i was not to have corys with him/her? how big would i need then. Bare in mind i like to keep on the undercrowded side. coz im LAZY

I've just been reading up on this a few moments ago, according to one site, if you put a beta in a 5 gallon tank, it's like a luxury hotel to them, so with that in mind having mine in a 10 gallon nanocube that was collecting dust just a few weeks ago in my garage, must be like his living in the Taj Mahol or the Queens palace

I was also reading that they should generally not be kept in a jar of less than 3/4 gallon.

I had to really turn down the flow on the filter for my beta because he just couldnt swim around in it, so now it's at it's lowest setting and he's doing good. I find these fish to be very beautiful fish, and would really like to start breeding them myself and trying to get my own color variations out of them, but darned if I CAN'T find a female in any stores near me.

Oh hey, thanks. I'll pop down to my not so local walmart tommorrow and see what they have. Now all I have to do is setup a full factory of tanks here (like I dont have enough tanks going already, 5 and counting) to accomodate a couple females, couple more tanks for some more males, coulple tanks for the babies.

I guess this fishy thing is no longer a hobby but rather my obsession.

we dont really do walmarts. i remember when i worked over in the US and went to a walmart and was AMAZED. those shops are insane

From what I've been reading, if the tank is under 5 gallons then NO heater, if it's over 5 gallons than a heater is okay, BUT, it seems that while the fish can live between aproximately 68f and 84f, they seem to like between 78 and 82f

So if you have a smaller tank than say 10 gallons, then I would assume that your going to need to keep the room the tank is in pretty stable, so that they dont freeze in the winter and get poached in the summer.

Seems to me a 5 gallon tank unheated would drop and rise too much in my area of the world, so a heater would be a must to keep the water reasonably stable.

Go to Beta Talk to get information, and then like usual, question it and ask others opinions so that you have a broad sprectrum of answers.
