Just wondering,
when i bought my tank, it came with a heap of stuff which included Matrix premium, natural biofilter support media......i was wondering if i should bother putting it in- i forgot i had it  and if it would work.

description on bottle-
matrix is a highly porous media designed to privide exceptionally efficient biofilration for single site removal of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate from freshwater aquaria.
?

anther thing about my media....i have some carbon cartridges in at the moment which i am going to take out as i was told they are of no use to me unless i want to get any meds out of tank, i was wondering if i should replace it with anything, one of my LFS's said maybe some filter wool?
but i wasn't sure :)

thanks :)

As you've heard, carbon is useless unless you are using it to remove medications on a temporary basis. For normal use you shouldn't have any carbon in the filter.

Matrix, by all accounts, is an excellent biomedia and I would definitely use it.

Seachem recommend that your filter media be in this order: mechanical -> chemical -> biological. That is, your filter wool should be at the start of the filter (water entry) to trap solid wastes, and the biological should be at the end (the bacteria are working on dissolved wastes, not solids). This layout helps prolong the life of Matrix as it would take longer for the microscopic pores to become clogged. If you put Matrix first then the media will get covered in gunk and you won't get the same performance.

the camera doesn't do any justice to the look of it :p i took the first carbon cartridge out. Thats the black sponge in the left bit.

where do you suggest i put the media?

I still don't know where to put it :p
I was also wondering, all i have in my filter at the moment is the black sponge and the ceramic tubes.
What else could i add- i also have one bit of carbon cartridge because i wan't to replace with some other media before i take it out so i have plenty of good bacteria in there-
i was thinking of maybe filter wool?
thanks
