ok well, in one of my lfs, there are some HUGE neon tetras being called Congo Tetras.

I acctually believed it until looking up Congo tetras which come up with a kinda greyish fish.

What are these massive neon tetras? Are they a different species or just really old neons?
Maybe a wild neons? Maybe a new species??

They look exactly like a Neon, are about 1 and a half inch long (some are 2 inch long) and are being sold for £2.99 each with the name "Congo Tetras."

Hi,

They are probably just ancient neons. They grow to a decent size if kept in a large enough tank. I wouldn't buy them as they will probably die of old age soon.

Emma

Congo tetras are silver tetras. When the light is turned off they have rainbow colour to them. They might have listed them wrong as a congo tetra looks nothing like a neon.

I know. Thats what I was thinking when I first saw them in the tank. Problem is, there is a pet shop down the road selling them for £2.99 each named Congo Tetras. I thought fair enough, maybe got the name wrong because they don't specialise in fish but a Fish Specialist has the same problem. Whats going on!?

I mean, they may buy them named Congo Tetras but apparently the pet shop breeds their own fish or what ever they say to customers and the guy in the acctually fish shop has like millions of years of experience (just looking at him...not being rude or anything) :p

Well a congo tetra is this

you can get jumbo neons which are larger than the average and my lfs has a new breed of neons which are diamond eye but

Yea maybe they are Jumbo Tetras. But are they usually that expensive? And can they live on their own coz there isn't any like offers sayin 5 for (so much) like the normal neons.

How would a Jumbo Tetra come about being created?

Or are they a natural fish?

the only tetras I have seen in my lfs sold in groups are normal neons 10 for £5. the rest arnt sold like that although it does say they are schooling fish and at least 6. Jumbo neons. I have no idea.. they might be origional and just come from a different place where they are bigger which is why you have cardinals and jumbo cardinals and small glowlights and bigger glowlights but they are deffo not neon congo tetras. if they were then there would be a profile about them somewhere on the net as if he had bread them he would want to be known.. cross breeding a congo and neon. wow

I've neons, had them for about 2 years, they're all around 1.5", and I think they'll acrry on growing a bit. They CAN live till 10 years (!!!!) in an aquarium, so they should have plenty more time left in them yet.
I think 10 years is pretty much a record though.

maybe a dash dot tetra?

flag tetra?

cardinals get to 5cm

whoever said they can get diamonds id snap them up. you just never see them for sale.
