Mass Grave :-(

90% sure. The 2 platys don't have any spots anymore, if that helps. I think the tetras were so far gone anyway. I'm assuming with how bad their fins were rotting away that their immune systems were not able to fight the parasites at all? or I caught it too late and the half dosing wasn't enough? The small fry have the tiniest white spots. I looked at pics online to compare, but since it's my first experience with anything like this, I won't say I am 100% sure.

if you can get waterlife protozin then do. i honestly couldnt praise it highly enough, by day 3 all the spots had gone.

+1 ... I wouldn't buy anything else now and always have some in stock - just in case

Not even on ebay. I'm looking at other brands, I want to start something better tomorrow, and don't want to wait on the mail.

Sorry about your fish. I too had an outbreak & since I wasn't sure exactly what it was I tried a "cure all" known as Kordon Rid Fungus. Yes, I know Ich is not a Fungus but it says it works for it. It smells disgusting, but it's safer for scaleless fish like Corries, Kuhlis & Oto's and supposedly okay with sensitive fish like Tetras. It turns the water brown, really brown after a couple of treatments, but it worked for me. If you go to their site it explains it better than I can. They also make a product called Rid Ich but if you're not 100% sure it's Ich, maybe this treatment is better for you.

Here's a link:

Oh, and I bought it at PetCo so you should have no trouble finding it. The big bottle is like $15 but it's the size of a shampoo bottle!

Thanks! I'm pretty miserable today. I have a hard time killing anything, and usually wave flies out of the house like a lunatic with a towel. I'm going to call my petco and see if they have any before driving out.

You could search eBay uk. Alot Sellers ship worldwide and you have a currency converter in your eBay settings. I can't see it being too costly to ship a small bottle to the USA

It's horrible. Sorry.
That fin rot the tetras had may have been bacterial too. So on top of ich if you have a bacterial infection then raising the temperature too high can kill the fish as the bacteria normally loves it.
I would stick with a good med as already suggested and drop down the temperature a bit. Normally when treating with medication there is no need for such high temperatures. Some strains of ich have been found resistant to temperatures that even most fish can't survive.

I just got back from Petco...I will turn the temp down thanks snazy...That's exactly what happened I think...The tetras were doing ok and then suddenly their fins were gone in a few days.

I got Kordon Ich Attack, they didn't have the Kordon Fungus. Its not a heavy medication...herbal even, which has me worried, but I think with tetras gone, the ich won't be so hard to get rid of. They were the perfect host, they were already weak, fins rotting...if I were a parasite, I would have lived there too. The platy fry that have spots only have a few little ones, and the older platys are still clear. We will see.

Just an update: I did a HUGE water change and tank clean. I figured the fish were pretty maxed on their stress levels. I wiped the walls, brushed off the wood and filter intake, vacuumed up like normal. I let the new water sit a little to give the cories a break and then added the Kordon Ich Attack. Today, for the first time in 2 weeks, the cories are starting to move around. meaning they are swimming! It reminds me off the day after you've had the flu and you have to move slowly. They are very slow, but they are active. It's really great to see.

Now I am just wondering, a few of the cories have some minor fin damage. It's nothing close to the tetras, but I want to know if there is something I should be doing about it? I turned the temp down last night to about 78-79 over a few hours. I didn't want to go too low because the ich {or whatever} is still in the tank. Though I will say I am not seeing spots on the platies, which is good.

Good news! As far as the Corries are concerned I think some frequent water changes should probably do the trick. Maybe someone with more knowledge than I have will chime in..........

I've used a med called API T.C. Tetracycline which is very expensive, like almost $20 to treat 20 gallons if I remember correctly. I've also used a much less expensive product called SeaChem Metronidazole. That stuff was only about $7 and it worked wonders for some mysetery bacterial thing I had with my Pearl Gourami female.

Good luck & don't get discouraged.

Thanks :) I have melafix, but I may just take it back and exchange it for something for bacteria specifically...then I'll have a full fish pharmacy going on

I have a brand new bottle of API Super Ich Cure in the event Ich rears it's ugly head in any of my tanks ever again! I also keep Aquarium salt handy as well as multiple other meds just in case. :shifty:

Now I need to get another filter for my 10 gallon so I'll be able to fire it up at a moment's notice when nec.
