I'm looking for a shop in the Leeds or Bradford area that has a good collection of Marine fish and live rock. Ive used Paws for Thought in the past for freshwater which is excellent but does not have a huge marine section. Any suggestions?

Interfish is a good shop. Fish are adverage most of the time, but corals are usualy excellent :good:

Aye, Living Death sells marines, but I would not buy from them. They cannot even cope with keeping their freswater fish happy... They were a great shop at one point, but my official supervisor at work moved to Paws For Thought a few years ago now and they went down from there...

Tong must have taken on marines recently, they diden't have them last year when I went to look, but they are a reputable dealership for freshwater fish and have good quality stock :good:

There is Waterscapes out near Otley, but all the fish I've bought from them so far has had some problem or another shortly after...

If it were me, I'd buy from Paws For Thought, Interfish or Tong Garden center if they are now doing marines. Living death is to be avoided at all costs IMO.

Everyone cannot order in Marines ATM due to the weather, unless they import direct or swallow a massive hit for same day delivery. Unless you import your won as a shop, you have to deal with TMC, who won't do overnight shipping AMT. Shops can collect themselves, but their nearest branch is in Manchester, or you can pay for same day delivery. The latter shounds a good option untill you find it will double to costs of supplying fish to you, and hence will double the price you pay...

Ask a smaller shop to order stuff for you if you like. If it's hard to sell and/or a specialist thing, they may ask for a diposit, but usualy they will be most obliging to pencil it onto their next order for you, usualy without asking for that diposit if it's popular :good:

LOL Living Death is that that shop in Armley, Dont buy fish from there M8 always had a bad rep.
Tong I cant remember them doing marines either.
Its just a crying shame Andrew at QSS didn't venture into marines.
Just a word to Rabbut, Have you been to Transcontinental Goldfish Co. recently.

If not in the car
Ps dont get the slow bus (I did)
its a bum numbing couple of hours covers all the estates en route.
best change at Dewsbury and get a connection to Ossett, check at BFD Interchange. (Dayrover ticket is good)

Nope, haven't even heard of it before, let alone know where it is to visuit it  Any good, if so, where's it based?

There is a new branch of Pets At Home opened in Meanwood thats *supposed* to be a marine specialist branch with good staff and stock, but I haven't been to look yet. Bit easier for me to get to than my current place of work, so I'll be going down with my CV to look at them later this week hopefully, to look and see about job prospects. I would not recomend the other branch in Leeds though, it was in a real state on my last visuit 6 months or so ago and they don't do marines  As with any marine store, stock and shop quality is dependant uppon staff :/

All the best

Is there a Pets At Home in Guisely as well, whats that meant to be like? Ill pop over to Meanwood at some point too but would be really interested to hear what you think Rabbut. Where do you work now?

yes interfish is your best bet round here for marines. don't be scared to call them before you go to see what deliveries they're getting, very friendly place. :good:

PM'ed ;)

I've not been to the Guisely branch of Pets At Home, nor herd of it uptill now  Is it another new one? They're springing up all over the place ATM

Rabbut, I just had a look at the store finder section on their website and noticed it. Its not far from me so its another Ill have a look at.

Thanks Miss Wiggle it certainly looked the answer for marines from their website.

Thanks to everyone again for their help. :good:

Hi,

I.m new to this forum . I was surprised by rabbuts expereince at Waterscapes in Otley, i use them a lot and haven't lost a single fish. The staff all know what they are talking about and the new display tank looks fantastic. They aren't my local shop (tong is) but i would recommend waterscapes to anyone!

My FW buying experience with waterscapes has always been good, it's just a tad dissapointing that it diden't continue with marines  The chap that runs the shop certainly knows his stuff though.

Rabbut - Transcontinental is in Huddersfield - just off leeds road, nr the Galpharm Staduim.

Look for the Odeon Cinema - it's opposite that!

Very good company - Have a good selection of Tropics, Cichlids, Coldwater and Marines.

The two lads who work there (Jamie & Tom I think) know there stuff, but I don't think the manager(s) do - I think their area is the lizards and snakes which are upstairs.
