i have just spent the last 7 hours changing my 70 gal tank from tropical to a marine setup. i dont really have too much of a clue at the moment but this forum is helping. the question is. i have set up a biostar skimmer that does 2000 l a hour and have 2 fluvel 304 external filters that i have fitted with ehfi substrate i have not removed the spondges but have removed the filter floss. and i have added 3 large bags of live sand. and i will add the instant ocean salt in the morning . i have been told i cannot place fish in untill a weekand then only 2 max. have i done everything right. i have a new salt water master test kit. will this be too much filtration. i really want a box fish there wonderfull..
sorry for the long post im just really in need of advice. ooh and i got a small odomitor as well for the salt but dont know what level it should hit. :dunno:

You should have mixed the salt with the water first. You most certainly just killed all your live sand.

you don't have to run your skimmer yet.

Specific gravity 1.025

Add fish after cycling is complete. Usually a few weeks for saltwater.

Box fish can be deadly to the rest of the tank, be careful about what you put in with it. I have a 75 gallon SW tank and used to run a skimmer and 2 Mangnum 350s under it that I modified with sponges out of an aqua clear 500. (Close to what you have done.) It is best if you mix your salt and water in a bucket before putting it in your tank. You also need to have the saltwater in your tank before you put in the live sand or you will just kill whats in the sand. How many fish you have also depends on the size of the fish, the smaller the fish the more you can have. Is this a fish only tank, or do you want to go reef?

water has not been in too long 1/2 hour. how much salt should i add
quick pleaseee. thats 60 quidd down the drain ahhhhhhh
it will be fish only for the time being

just read the bag and it treats the same l as mt tank whole bag in now ty for help. just hope im not too late . i did add 3 big bags of live sand

You will want to also put something like Bacter Vital Marine/ Brackish water Formula in it. www.marcweissco.com. This will help cycle your tank quickly.
Make note:
This product can cause false very high ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate readings on some test kits. Multiply by .0009 to adjust test results for ammonia and nitrite; .000912 for nitrate. Can be used with Coral Vital and Coral Vital LSB to create an ongoing cycle.
