Marine Set Up

When you get some pictures up of the tank (or a link) I think we'll probably be able to advise more skimmer wise. personally have t5 lighting with aquaray LEDs screwed into my hood also. For the 1st few days you'll be looking at letting your water heat up, Letting the sand settle and adding your live rock and powerheads.... Best thing to do is To take it slowly and take in lots of info :)

A sump is a container (usually glass) that goes under your tank that has your tank water. You will have a outlet that sucks water out and a inlet that obviously pumps water back in :p however all the space in the middle of these pumps can contain things like your heater, skimmer, refugium, and media chambers. You can google a sump and see many pictures, vids etc of them. They can be costly to buy unless you've got a friend who knows a thing or two about plumbing lol

Went to the shop today but didn't get speaking to anyone. It was foobusy.

Looks like I'll have to stay with freshwater. Don't know what I need to do for a marine set up

Before you decide against if you give us a general idea of corals you like ( have a browse through the marine bit and pick some ) well tell you the lighting requirements,

For live rock you can get it as cheap as £4 a kilo off the Internet

And you can have no filter just power heads its called the berlin method and utilises the live rocks filter capabilities

and for a skimmer you can pick up deltecs off eBay secondhand for pretty good money and they hang on the back of the tank so you may not have to cut the hood

And the maintenance depends on the fish you like a lionfish is a lot messier than a common clown fish for example

ha ha you cant dismiss it just because the shop was too busy to ask. I started marine after 18 or so yrs of keeping tropical and its a steep learning curve but after a couple of years I feel like I keep my fish quite well now without knowing the technical stuff

Have a look at a couple of the journals if you see mine you'll see what t5 lighting allows bar my anenome which is me being naughty

All I can say is I can strongly recomend marine its very addictive and once you start it creates ambitions to do things bigger and better I can see me keeping a marine tank for ever now

I'm noT sure what corals exactly, anything with a good mix of bright colours really. I was looking at mushrooms and polyps on seahorse aquariums web site. I'd love a lion fish BTW they look amazing.

Where can you get the live rock online for that price? Does anyone know anywhere that would deliver to northern Ireland?

No it's from people breaking down there tanks go on eBay and other for sale sites and have a look it's normally between 4-6 pounds a kilo :good:

percy i saw live rock on gumtree for sale in portadown for five pound a kilo
