hello i just bought really white sand for my freshwater tank
the lfs said it was safe for my freshwater , but it looks like there is seah shells in the sand ... and i dont want my fish to die... what should i do

If in doubt, don't use it and take it back.

Does it have a brand name (like CaribSea) or is it just a bag of sand?
Is it coated?
Does it look like crushed coral or is it tiny grains of rock?

Take a bit out and drip some vinegar on it. Does it fizz?

take it back and get some sand suitable for tropical fish. :)

BTW the Pack are way better than the Vikings :)

didnt have a name like carib sea on it .... it has little sea shells in it

i just used regular playground sand in my tank and it works fine. just make sure that u wash it realy good w/ warm water. and to help the settling process take the sand and put it in ur bath tub and let the warm water run for about 20-30 min.

p.s. the Panthers own all NFL teams even the packers and we shall c this monday. hahahaha :shifty:

If you are planning on keeping african cichlids, I'd say go ahead and use that sand. For anything else, it is unsafe because the seashells will drastically raise the pH of your water, which may already be quite high.
