Well the other day I was looking around some websites and what brands of salt are out their. My tub of salt as about dried up so, in short terms, what kind of salt do you use? and, do you like it?

I am currently using Red Sea, but I am having calcium deficiency problems in my tank and was thinking about trying Instant Ocean's Reef Crystals.

I've used that salt before.. i wouldnt use it.. the calcium levels arent constant.. higher then IO but atleast with IO after each water change u know how 2 dose... I find IO is cheap and works is fine for "my" needs..
but i u wanna go high end.. check out "tropic marin pro reef"

Good thread and one which I shall be watching with interest. I'm almost at the end of a bucket of Aqua Medic which I have used for the past 2 years (not the same bucket  ), but my lfs advised me to move to Instant Ocean as they thought is was a better mix. Personnaly I havent got a preference, Aqua Medic seems OK, but would use another brand if I thought it was better. Hope some of the experts respond with their opinion.

Heh, well TBH I just use plain old Instant Ocean. Sure the calc and alk are on the low side but I have to dose to keep up with my demand anyways, so I just dose a little more. Also there is a benefit to solutions with low calc/alk as Ter said. You dont need to worry about fluctuating batches since IO is nowhere near the saturation point. Its the same every time.

If you wanna go higher quality with more calc/alk, I'd reccomend Oceanic salt for sure. Its what all the tank maintenance guys around buffalo that I know use for ease of use. Expensive but a fire-and-forget type solution.

Funny...I LOVE Reef Crystals...has a high Mg content. Have had no calcium issues. SH

PS..use the search button and put in the words 'salt'....click on 'search titles only' and you'll find half a dozen polls on what salt to use.

Have you tried the new Red Sea Pro

a little more expensive but states it is a lot more stable. I have purchased a large bucket, I'm just seting up
so I cannot give any personal observations as yet. Maybe someone else will as I too would be interested in the replies.

Below is a breakdown of common synthetic sea salt.
