Mandarin's

it is possible to buy one that has been fed by frozen foods...but to find one is the hard part. I have seen many fat ones in 75gs-125g's with a 30L and 55g sump/refugiums, they are cool...

As for the pod being i have seen one place that did indeed sell them i am not sure how but it was very expensive like $75 for one unit...

Leon, you will be fine, once your tank matures.
Make sure you can see lots of podlife before you get one though. Don't rush it.

And lest we all forget, Mandarins aren't the only eaters of pods.

This is one of those times where the difference between a cycled tank and mature tank makes a world of difference.

I have a Mandarin myself. He is one of my favorites.

Noo, im not going to, it was one of the first fish i looked at before i even had a tank, read up on it, so knew not to get one. Im gonna leave it for atleast 6 months before i do, by then i should have another 30kg (70lbs) of L.R which by the sound of it should be sufficient :D :D
leon.

with 178 pounds of LR you could even add a pair if u waited a little longer.

Aquascaper, there are mandarins that die in tanks with 100lbs, 75 will only be enought if some of it is in a fuge. And there is nothing wrong with discourageing people from buying WC fish if they don't have enought LR to be SURE that it will live.

Don't doubt it at all.

The point I was making is that there is so many different opinions to be found that careful research should be done beforehand on such matters. I shared my research only to be told that it was not true , no evidence to back that up - just that it was not true.

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everyone just trashed other peoples research?

I just feel that if the information that is shared is an opinion then it should be displayed as such otherwise the uneducated can be misled into making decisions that are based on someones opinion, rather than facts, which to me is wrong.

Im love these fish and alway advise extreme caution with them. However if you follow the general opinion on them by experienced aquarists then I would say its worth an attempt. If you have enough live rock then its worth trying. Make sure there is no competition for the mandari and as long as the environment right then the pods will come.

just a sideline point, this mandirin has been in a very small tank in a very small shop fot a very long time now, and i'm starting to wonder if it's accepting supplemented food, cause it's in a tank all by it's self witn no LR or anything. Maybe it's starving to death, i think i'm gonna go down to the shop and speak to them about it, see if it's eating, and what???

At a guess i would say not. most shops get madarins in and let them starve to death. are you absolutely sure its the same fish? i know of shops that use the same tank for madarins so you can never really tell if its the same fish or a new one they simply replaced

it's kinda like when people buy guppies, and spend money on them. they die within a year, lol so what da point? versus some of my african cichlids, the one in that photo next to my name is 2 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and still a handsome devil. Mandrins are cool, but for why they run so cheap cheaper then clowns i will have no idea.

Mandarins are easy to catch and the turn over on them is good.. people buy them because they are cheap and fantastic colours.. they die quickly so people will try again assuming they had some bad luck and this dies.. so the shops and suppliers know taht they can shift alot of these when compared to clowns that are far hardier. If manradins were really easy to acclimatise in forzen foods and their survival was far better im sure the price would rise as people would not be so quick to get replacements.

its not that your reasearch is being trashed its that we disagree, I always like to ere on the side of caution.
