Managing A Refugirum

I have switched my tank over from the old internal filter and have added a HOB refugirum and have just a quick couple of question if any one can answer:

I am currently growing Calpura algea and woundered how ofet o should reomve section of the plant, i currenly oly task away the occasional leaves that turn brown but the fuge is full of the stuff. Should i be removinmg 50% letting it fill up and the removing it again? or just leave it to grow and overwelm the fuge

I have already decided to remove the bio balls that came with it and fill it with live rock rubble instead.

I remove it when it starts overgrowing the refugium . Knock mine down about 25% less than full. Don't go as much as half though, that could cause some imbalances to the ecosystem.
